Mission:Haiti

Pastor Ken, Missy, Drucie and others are leaving the states tomorrow morning, bound for Port-au-Prince.  The group will be in Haiti for the next week giving out food, medicine, and other supplies.  Most importantly, the group will be seeking oppurtunities to introduce the people of Haiti to Jesus Christ.

So, we ask you to pray for the group as they travel.  Pray that God will protect them.  Pray that God will open and close doors to the group according to His will, for His glory.  Pray for God to soften hearts to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.  Pray that the Holy Spirit will quicken the Church to pray without ceasing for our brothers & sisters.

Heavenly Father, glorify Your name through your people.  May You protect them and minister to them as they minister to the people of Haiti.  May You redeem the hearts of the people of Haiti as you redeem and rebuild their nation.  May you bring those we love back to us safely.  We love You and give You all glory, honor, & praise.  Amen.

America Cannot Succeed Without Christianity

In his book, A Christian Manifesto, Francis Shaeffer writes:

When the men of our State Department, especially after World War II, went all over the world trying to implant our form-freedom balance in government downward on cultures whose philosophy and religion would never have produced it, in almost every case, it ended in some form of totalitarianism or authoritarianism. p.29

With deep insight, Shaeffer shows that every attempt to duplicate US style government in other countries invariably ends in failure when divorced from its Christian principles.  The uniqueness  and success of our Representative Republic can only be attributed to Biblical Principles that flowed from The Reformation teaching in John Calvin’s Institutes of Christian Religion and Samuel Rutherford’s Lex Rex.  In short, the very foundation that buttresses our form of government is the fact that it is distinctly Christian.  So the question begs to be asked:  If our government owes its success to its Christian foundation, why are the people in office in American trying to undermine, eliminate and destroy the very foundation that drives its success?  Could it be that this is their aim?  We already know that without it, anarchy and totalitarianism are the fruits of such efforts.

The ancient words of the Psalmist sound unremittingly relevant now:  “If the foundations be destroyed, what shall the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3)  Let us pray that a new generation of leaders will understand the role of Christianity in the founding of  our nation, and that without it we cannot succeed.

The Future Of Haiti

We have just returned home from Haiti after spending several days assessing the damage and locating and caring for pastors and their congregations that we have worked with for years.  We saw many miracles while we were there and one of them was that all 53 pastors that we have worked with all survived!  However, we grieve for Pastor Model, whose wife died when the roof of the church collapsed, killing her and injuring others.  Keep him and the family in your prayers.

Another miracle that occurred was that our guest house survived the quake with very minimal damage, while other houses built as sturdy as ours were completely destroyed.  God has a plan for that guest house to serve as a base of operation for mission groups that will stay there when the airport opens up for commercial flights.  The Body of Christ has yet to show up in large numbers but when they do they will have a place to stay.

Hanging In The Balance

The future of Haiti is hanging in the balance.  Now that Haiti has stopped shaking after the 7.00 earthquake and many aftershocks, it is vital that the Haitian government begin to plan what to do next.  They have buried almost 175 thousand in mass graves and there are many more still buried in the rubble of their homes and buildings all around Port-au-Prince.  It is a tragedy that there was no identification process in place so loved ones could at least know where their husbands, wives, children and relatives are buried.

As of last week, the vast majority of Haitians were afraid to go inside their houses in fear that they would be crushed like many of their neighbors who perished in the quake.  They are living under tarps and makeshift tents to keep the sun and wind from them.  The rainy season will begin any day now, and if something isn’t done to relocate these homeless people, many of them will die of exposure, pneumonia, malaria, cholera and other dise Read More…
